Overcoming Complacency

It is easy to be complacent about your life, of what you have, and what you have to live for. Life can sometimes be too complicated that people tend to just accept it the way it is. There is some comfort that comes with being complacent and this is why so many people choose to settle. But why should you? Why should you let go of your chance to see your life get to greater heights?

Agreeing Not to Settle

You do not agree to settle because you know and believe that you deserve something better for yourself. You do not agree to settle because you know and believe that you have the potential to shine and make something out of yourself. Settling is like giving up and that can be likened to agreeing to what others say about you. It is agreeing that you deserve being rejected and being told “no”. It is straight out quitting without meeting the finality of a failure; and more importantly, it is putting an end to all kinds of hopes and dreams that you may have harbored in the past. You do not settle because you know that you still have a chance and you do not settle because you know that you have the power to break free from whatever desperate situation you have. You are not hopeless, so why should you act like you are?

How to Overcome Complacency

You overcome complacency in a few simple ways:

Do not overlook anything. Do not be satisfied with the routine and do not accept anything as it is. Observe your work and pay attention to what you do. Do not be afraid to correct yourself and do not be ashamed to admit inefficiencies and seek to alter them. This is where progress begins. Noticing even the tiniest details in your life will be very useful, so do not overlook anything.

Seek to better yourself. Education and experience dictate competence and sending yourself to school to receive extra training will be very important to the improvement of your life because you will become more valuable to yourself, to your career and to this existence that you have a high regard for. Go back to school or attend courses. Being satisfied with the very little that you know is complacency. Accepting that you have reached the end of the line is going to be your downfall.

 It Begins with Your Imagination

Progress may be hard to fathom especially if you have become accustomed to a very low quality of life. You have been in the pits too long that you cannot envision yourself anywhere else. When this is the case, you have become complacent and will never get anywhere if you keep this up. Spread your wings and allow yourself to dream. Stretch your imagination and pretend as if success is already at the tip of your tongue and then taste it — because it ought to be sweet.
